The Silent Auction and Spaghetti Lunch Needs YOU!
0 Comments | Posted by Miranda Kurtt in Uncategorized
Our youth, parents, and volunteers continue to work on the Silent Auction and Spaghetti Lunch scheduled for March 4, but we need your help. Part of what makes our auction so successful is the willingness of the congregation to donate items to be auctioned. We’ve had people donate woodwork, art, skilled labor, gift certificates, and other items. Prayerfully consider how your passions and gifts can bless our youth ministry by donating new or like-new items and/or services to the auction. Forms are available on the bulletin board in the entryway and can be dropped off in the office. All donations are due by February 22. Thanks for your continued support!

Confession and Forgiveness: A Lenten Preparation
0 Comments | Posted by Miranda Kurtt in Uncategorized
Sunday February 12, the Rev. Ken Jones, a professor at Grand View University and a member of our congregation, will speak on Confession and Forgiveness at the Faith Forum. In this preparation for Lent, he writes, “Although they are not always explicit, confession and absolution provide the basic structure to Christian life. They inform our worship, preaching, service and, of course, our relationship with God. We’ll talk about what why confession is important, even for non-Catholics, and look for places where we can encounter Christ’s complete forgiveness in our lives.
Healthy disciples make for healthy congregations. That’s the contention of the Rev. Dr. Scott K Beebe, keynote speaker this year for the Southeastern Iowa Synod’s annual Called Together in Mission (CTIM) event.
Pastor Scott will ask and provide suggestions for answering such questions as, “What makes for healthy disciples?” “What do they look like?” Then, how are healthy disciples and healthy congregations related?
CTIM takes place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The day also will include workshops on various topics of congregational life and ministry, bible study and a closing worship with Bishop Michael Burk presiding and preaching. The $25 fee includes lunch.
Registration deadline is February 28. You may access the registration form from the Southeastern Iowa Synod’s website or there will be a few copies at the welcome center in the Commons.
